Book One:
The Liars Club - Mary Carr
In a nutshell - This lady has two nutjobs for parents in Texas and as a result has a crazy childhood.
I liked the way she writes. Its like listening to a story around a campfire. In the book she makes references to her daddy's storytelling abilties at the American Legion and its clear she picked up his skill. This was a refreshing change of narration style.
Book Two:
Flash and Bones - Kathy Reichs
In a nutshell - Dr. Temperance Brennan solves a murder at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Reed's mom came to town for a Kathy Reichs book signing a long time ago and I accompanied them without any knowledge of who Kathy Reichs was. However, Reed's mom and I share reading tastes and she recommended the books to me and I've been hooked on the series ever since. This one was a little boring. I enjoyed the fact that it was set in NC and I have been to Charlotte and know what the racetrack looks like. However, Brennan doesn't have a boytoy in this book because Ryan has this weird illegitimate daughter who is a herion addict and he's up in Canada dealing with her. I hate the fact that the junkie daughter exists. I wish someone would find her dead with needle sticking out of her arm so I don't have to read about her anymore. If you can't tell, she totally puts a damper on the series for me. Go ahead, think I am heartless for wishing death on a fictional character. I also wish a slow and heinous death for Bella Swan from Twilight.
